You can annotate images, draw circles and arrows or format the page any way you like. It is more like a plain canvas onto which a user can click anywhere to create a text box and begin typing at that location, scribble notes with a stylus/pen or embed an image, website link, video, audio or other digital file. Unlike Word, the OneNote page is not linear in its native orientation. Information is saved in pages and can be easily organized into different tabbed sections within a notebook. ![]() OneNote is the digital and multi-media equivalent of a 3-ring binder that gives teachers and students a tremendous amount of flexibility in how they ideate and record their notes. OneNote is a superior way to compile and organize notes (While one can use the handle of a screwdriver to pound a nail, a hammer is much better suited for the job!) While you can certainly use Word for note-taking – as many of us have for years – OneNote’s completely digital orientation and notebook-style interface make it a superior tool for this purpose, making it easy to capture information in a way that would be possible, but far more time-consuming, to do with Word. Introduced in 2003, OneNote was created from the ground up as a digital notebook for flexible, easy note-taking, gathering of source information and sharing of collaborative projects that involve a variety of file types – from website links to embedded images, videos and hand-drawn notes. ![]() OneNote is a much younger sibling in the Microsoft Office family. Still, at its core, Word is primarily a tool for the creation, editing and final presentation of documents, either in print or digital form. Over the years, as we’ve shifted toward primarily reading documents in digital form, Word has become even more flexible, with the addition of more web-friendly and collaborative features in Office 365. Features like the ability to track changes and add comments revolutionized how people created and collaborated on multiple versions of documents, and deep capabilities for things like creating tables of contents and footnotes made Word the perfect tool for academic and business applications alike. Microsoft Word has been the gold standard for word processing since the 1980s when it replaced the typewriter as a digital tool for the creation of documents destined for printing. While some aspects of the products are similar, you’ll discover economies of effort if you use each tool in a way that takes advantage of its greatest strengths. OneNote and Word work differently because they were originally designed for very different purposes. OneNote and Word were designed for very different purposes Here’s a quick look at the features of both OneNote and Word to help you see how and when it might be beneficial to use each one in your classroom. ![]() Each of these programs has unique features and they work even better when used together. If you’ve never used OneNote before, you might be wondering how it’s different from using Microsoft Word. We love how it opens up what’s possible in terms of student-teacher collaboration, empowers students to have more control over their learning and saves teachers time and effort on administrative tasks. If you’ve been following our blog, you’ve probably noticed that we’re big fans of OneNote. ![]()

![]() So, next, you’re going to saute some fresh, raw onions, along with the reserved bay leaves, carrots, onions and spices from the marinade. It’d be a shame to waste all those yummy, charred beef bits at the bottom of the pot. Repeat until all short ribs are seared and then remove them and set aside. Then, in the bacon grease (super healthy, I know) sear 2-3 short ribs at a time on all sides until a nice charred crust forms. Transfer the bacon to a towel-lined plate and crumble it once cool. In a deep pot or dutch oven, cook a few pieces of bacon over medium heat until crisp. Next, it’s time to lock in all that flavor from the marinade and sear the short ribs. Reserve both the veggies and marinade and set aside. Drain the marinade over a 4-cup measuring cup through a fine-mesh strainer. Since short ribs are a more tender cut of beef than what’s traditionally used, I find you can thankfully cut the marinade time down quite a bit.Īfter 48 hours, remove the short ribs from the marinade and pat them dry. Note, classic sauerbraten recipes will sometimes call for the beef to marinate for up to a week, so, in comparison, this is nothing. You want the beef to marinate for a minimum of 48 hours and up to 72 hours. Use enough water to completely cover the ribs in the marinade. Last, pour 1 cup of red wine, 2/3 cup of red wine vinegar and 4-6 cups of water over the short ribs. This will make it easier to discard the spices later when making the gravy. You can also wrap the spices in a cheesecloth and tie it shut with twine. To the bowl add the pickling spices, whole cloves, whole black peppercorns, bay leaves, fresh sprigs thyme, and fresh parsley. Next, it’s time to add lots and lots of spices. Then, arrange one sliced onion and 2 large, sliced carrots around the beef. In this recipe, you’ll place 5 pounds on bone-in, English-style short ribs into a large glass bowl or plastic container. The unique flavor of sauerbraten comes from essentially pickling the meat before cooking it. This is probably the most important step in any sauerbraten recipe. How to Make Braised Short Ribs as Sauerbraten Step 1: Prepare the Marinade But, trust me, once you dig into these tender ribs, you’ll agree that they’re worth the effort. ![]() Capturing the classic flavors of the dish is a process that takes time so make sure you plan ahead for this one. Good news: they work brilliantly and they are utterly delicious! Authentic Sauerbraten isn’t a 30-minute meal and my version is no different. While the traditional recipe is insanely delicious, using a rump roast or eye of round, I couldn’t help but wonder how short ribs would work in this dish. ![]() ![]() These Sauerbraten Braised Short Ribs are the result of my German cooking exploits. When we returned, I was determined to learn how to cook a few German classics at home but with my own spin. My love for these dishes only grew once my husband and I traveled to Germany a few years ago and we got to sample the flavors of Bavaria first hand. It was there, that I was introduced to german favorites like wiener schnitzel, sauerbraten and beef rouladen. ![]() However, once I met my husband, I started frequenting Milwaukee’s famous German restaurant, Mader’s, with his family for birthdays and special occasions. While I’m half German myself, I didn’t grow up eating a lot of German cuisine. If you can’t tell by my last name, I married into a big German family. For a fun twist, English-style short ribs, rather than a rump roast, are used in this updated version of a Bavarian classic. For example, digit span may be used to get a sense of attentional difficulties. Some neuropsychologists use the technique on people suffering brain damage as it leads to links with which part of the brain has been affected, or use specific subtests in order to get an idea of the extent of the brain damage. Intelligence tests also are used in populations with psychiatric illness or brain injury, though some regard this use as controversial. The Wechsler Abbreviated Scale of Intelligence (WASI) uses vocabulary, similarities, block design and matrix reasoning subtests similar to those of the WAIS to provide an estimate of full scale IQ in about 30 minutes. It is an intelligence measure that is appropriate for use with those individuals ages 16-89 years of age (this is an expanded age range for adults 74-89, reflecting the increased average life expectancy). The WAIS-III is a version of the WAIS published in 1997 and has been superceded by the current version, WAIS-IV published in 2008. You have to literally select every single body of water to follow or unfollow, and even then it still doesn't work, and you'll get posts of fish caught 200 miles away from water bodies that you're not following, which is pointless to me. The thing I hate about the app in general (not specific to the paid version) is that your feed gets flooded with garbage posts of pro or sponsored fishermen or from people that live 200 miles away catching fish in places that aren't feasible for you to fish, and there is no good way to filter your feed to only show fish caught within 25 miles, for example. You also don't get sooo many posts at the same spots that you can determine patterns or which spots the fish are biting a lot or what lures are working there or anything like that. I just cancelled it 4 days ago, and never saw anything about water depth nor had the option to select it from the few catches I posted. That is absolutely the only thing about the paid version that is remotely worth it, and even then, once you document which waters are fishable, you don't need it. so you make a lot of trips out to places that end up being illegal to fish anyway. You also find out that a lot of people fish in areas with no trespassing signs or in HOA only ponds, etc. This is handy because I discovered some new ponds that I didn't know had fish in them based on posts people made. As long as they don't set the catch location as private it will show you the exact spot, and most people leave catch location public, I've found. If somebody takes the picture of the fish they kept back at their house, it will show up smack dab on their home, though. What this does is drastically limit the number of people that can see your exact catch location as if you're not a paid member it just shows a general area and not even the exact body of water, so you have to pay to get this info. I just cancelled it, because $6 a month is too expensive to continuously pay for the app. I did that, then forgot to cancel and it auto-renewed for 1 month ($5.99/ month).
